
Dr. Robert Rao is a board-certified general surgeon with fifteen years of experience
in the practice of general surgery. He received his medical degree from the University
of Missouri, Kansas City and completed his residency at Loyola University Medical
Center where he was named Surgical Intern of the Year.
Dr. Rao has been practicing general surgery in the northwest suburbs since 1995
and has held several leadership positions at area hospitals. He served as Chairman
of the Committee on Cancer at Northwest Community Hospital from 1999-2005 and remains
an active committee member. He also serves on the Physician Advisory Board for the
breast centers at both Northwest Community Hospital and Alexian Brothers Medical
Center. Dr. Rao is Chairman of the Trauma Service at Alexian Brothers Medical Center
and also serves on the hospital’s Operating Room Governance Committee. Additionally,
he is a member of the Quality Council Board of the Alexian Brothers Health Network.
Dr. Rao is a member of numerous professional societies including the American College
of Surgeons, the Illinois Surgical Society, the Chicago Surgical Society and the
American Society of Breast Surgeons. He has been named one of “America’s Top Surgeons”
by the Consumer Research Council of America numerous times and has published multiple
papers in medical journals on pancreatitis and its complications.
