
Dr. David Mahon is a board-certified general surgeon with more than fifteen years
of experience in the practice of general surgery. He received his medical degree
at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. His residency training was completed
at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and Abington Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania,
where he was named Outstanding Chief Surgical Resident.
Formerly a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Mahon served as department
head of general surgery at Great Lakes Naval Hospital and was awarded both the Naval
Achievement and Naval Commendation medals for his service.
Dr. Mahon has been practicing general surgery in the northwest suburbs since 1999
and holds several leadership positions at area hospitals. He is boardcertified in
Surgical Critical Care and serves as Trauma Director for Northwest Community Hospital.
He also is certified in advanced wound care and is Director of Northwest Community
Hospital’s Wound Care Center. He serves on the board of directors for the American
College of Certified Wound Specialists and has authored a textbook chapter on surgical
wound care.
Dr. Mahon has been published in medical journals and is a member of numerous professional
societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Chicago Surgical Society
and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Mahon is experienced
in all types of general surgery with special interest in gastrointestinal, endoscopy,
cancer surgery and advanced wound care.
