
Dr. Alan Loren is a board-certified general surgeon who has been in practice for
over twenty years. He received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch
School of Medicine and he also earned his Ph.D. in Immunopathology from the University
of Illinois-Chicago. Dr. Loren completed his surgical residency at Loyola University
Medical Center and has been practicing general surgery in the northwest suburbs
since 1986.
He has held numerous leadership positions at Northwest Community Hospital including
Chief of Surgery, member of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the National Surgical
Quality Improvement Program and President of the Medical Staff. An active member
of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Loren has served as Chairman of the Committee
on Applicants, President of the Chicago Chapter and a Council Member for 12 years,
as well as editor of “Surgeon’s News.” He also teaches Advanced Trauma and Life
Support for the American College of Surgeons.
Additionally, Dr. Loren has served as an officer of the Chicago Surgical Society
and a member of the Medicare Advisory Board. He is an active member of more than
25 surgical societies and has published numerous surgery-related articles as well
as presented at national meetings. He has been named one of “America’s Top Surgeons”
by the Consumer Research Council of America numerous times. Dr. Loren specializes
in all types of general surgery with special interest in breast, gastrointestinal,
hernia, thyroid and minimally-invasive procedures.
